Call for the Names of Our Loved Ones Lost to AIDS PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 18 October 2008 02:00

Dear Beloved Community,

Metropolitan Community Churches have stood on the forefront of HIV and AIDS since the very beginning of the pandemic. We committed ourselves to serving the lives of people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS through compassionate action. We took to the streets when unjust laws and policies hurt the lives of these same people. We immersed ourselves in the life-giving work of healing long before medical advancements made longer life a possibility for those of us infected with HIV.

God called MCC to make a difference in HIV and AIDS - and we have, again and again for three decades.

As we move into our 40th year celebration, the many years of deaths from HIV and AIDS come even more into focus. For a long time, many of us have been too traumatized and exhausted to look at the experience as a whole, from the point of view of its impact on our movement. Most of all we must remember that "Silence = Death", and that we must never, never forget those we loved and lost. If we are to be effective agents of change and hope in a new era of HIV and AIDS globally, we must honor what happened, and claim the memories of those wonderful men, women, and children.  We must ensure that the generations to come have a real opportunity to know our collective history.  Our stories, our memories are the keys to unlocking the lessons of the past, the uncommon hope in our hearts, and the possibility of a future when lives will no longer be lost - when we can at last celebrate a true end to AIDS.

We need your help.

MCC is compiling a listing of the names of the members of our churches, friends and families who have died over the years to add to our archive and be published as part of our online Global HIV/AIDS Ministries.

Please send the names of anyone who died of AIDS that you wish to have remembered to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  It is preferred that we have first and last names whenever you are able to provide such.  If for any reason you prefer to offer just the first name and last initial, then that is alright, too.  If you know the year the person died or a close estimate, please include that, as well.

Below you will see a partial list of the names we have gathered thus far.  Please join us in celebrating their lives and the transformative power of remembering.

Thank you for your continued faithfulness.
